History:
Eirene was born in the kingdom of Munoz, a snowy region, small with pockets of land occupied by governors (the equivalent of nobles), ruled by the High King. Her family is an ancient one with a small territory to their name. She was one of the middle children of nine daughters. Since she was born, she had the potential to marry into the High King's family. Unfortunately, she was born sickly, asthmatic and riddled with chronic pain. Her family took this into consideration and modified her education, preferring to hide her weaknesses than let anyone know. When she was of marriageable age, she and a few of her sisters had their names submitted to a matchmaker, determining if any of them were fated for one of the royal sons.
Eirene was chosen for one of the younger sons, Leander. Given he's the youngest of seven sons, it was not considered a prominent match. Still, Eirene was married to Leander at the age of 16. She lived at the royal court, doing her best to stay out of sight and avoid attention. By the time she was 19, a number of colonies were authorized to be settled on a nearby continent. Six of the royal brothers were given territories divided between them. Leander received the smallest one, far to the North and surrounded by constant ice and snow.
Fort Despoina was built and settled. Despite how the cold exacerbated Eirene's health, she served the role of the Governor's wife as best as possible. Her marriage, while friendly, was a political one. Not long after the wedding, she learned her husband's preferences ran a different way. She and Leander viewed each other as partners, bound together by fate. She kept his secret, overlooking his favorites and he helped her hide her ill health.
It was only a year later the High King died and the oldest son, Ottis was named King. Conflicts started in the colonies, several of the brothers testing their limits and attempting to expand their territories. Leander and Eirene managed to avoid the conflict, as nobody really wanted the area, viewing it as worthless.
One of the younger brothers, Pyrrhus, died from plague. A funeral was held in Demoleon's territory, one of the younger middle children. The funeral was a ploy to lure his brothers together, imprisoning them and demanding that they recognize him as king of the colonies. With a united kingdom, he'd be able to challenge Ottis's power and claim some for his own.
Eirene received word from Demoleon, demanding she travel to his realm and submit to his rule, bending the knee as her husband must. Surrounded by Leander's advisers, she begins to form a strategy, weighing the options before her. There were native tribes in the West, resisting the rule of the colonizers, fierce warriors able to withstand them. Deciding to take the chance, Eirene prepares to travel to the west before going south to Demoleon's land, hopefully with an army of the Natives, somehow negotiating an alliance with them.
Demoleon's strategy is not a bad one, but rather than submit, Eirene decides it will be Leander that is king and the colonies will be united under his rule. So long as she has the army to support her.
She's brought to Parthas the night before she's set to leave.
Personality:
Intelligent
Eirene was raised to be a noblewoman with a rich education. Because she was always ill, she spent her time in the library reading, practicing math and languages. She learned administration, as well as calligraphy and cartography, both becoming her passion. She applies her intelligence to her role as the governor's wife, presiding over much of the administration of her husband's realm. The running of the fort, the supplies and taxes are her purview. Leander prefers to leave these things to her, well aware that she's better qualified and everything will run more smoothly under her care.
Stubborn
Despite her shyness and quiet nature, Eirene is fiercely stubborn. When she sets her mind to a task, she focuses solely on it. Many would call her an "A" personality. Nothing will get her to back down. When her husband is imprisoned, she views Demoleon's demands as an insult and refuses to consider submitting. Despite the danger and the possibility that her husband might be killed, she intends to fight Demoleon with whatever forces she has at her disposal. Many of her husband's advisers urge her to consider a bargain with Demoleon or submission. She angrily refuses and assert her husband's rights, as he's no different from his brothers.
Shy
Because of Eirene's childhood, she's largely been solitary. Her marriage did little to change that. As her husband is one of the younger sons, he never received much recognition or attention. Eirene was allowed to blend into the background and keep to herself. It's only when her husband is given a territory that she has to be more prominent in her role and authority. Regardless, it still makes her uncomfortable. When she can, she retreats to join the scribes that she brought to her husband's fort. She doesn't keep ladies, staying on her own. When expected to be in company, she tries her best to remain silent and observe. She's capable of conversation, but it's hesitate and thoughtful.
Persuasive/Inspiring
Eirene is a skilled leader and negotiator. She understands the ways to compromise, to overcome conflict with various factions. She intends to negotiate with the Native Tribes, offering them a deal that would grant them autonomy, working more as allies than overlord and subject. Given that the Native Tribes have long resisted and hated the governors, having a guarantee of their own ways and autonomy will win them to her side. She's able as well to unite the fort and lords to her cause, guaranteeing that her husband's realm will fight. They agree to follow her and submit to a higher role for her husband, making him into their king.
